Many of our patients are surprised to learn that winter is actually the best time to have laser treatments for removal of sun spots (aka. aging spots, pigmentation, dark spots) from the face and body.
If you’ve been eager to have clearer,
toned and rejuvenated looking skin,
Spring break and summer will be here before you know it, and
January is the perfect time to do something about it!
Our GentleMax Pro Laser
will quickly and effectively remove those spots for good!
GENTLEMAX PRO® LASER
The GentleMax Pro laser is a non-surgical solution for skin discoloration. It is an excellent treatment for brown spots, sun damage, redness from rosacea, broken capillaries, and spider veins. It will even out skin color, leaving you with a more consistent tone and a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance.
During treatment, laser light is absorbed only by the unwanted melanin, raising the temperature to cause shattering of the pigment. Any deeper level damaged blood vessels are treated similarly with just a quick switch of the settings.
Shortly after treatment, the pigment cells (or melanin) have been thoroughly fragmented, without damaging the surrounding tissue. Vascular lesions (spider veins) also coagulate and shrink.
In the weeks after treatment, the shattered melanin particles are eliminated by your body's own "clean up" system that absorbs the fragmented pigment. Little or no trace of the initial pigmentation spots or spidery veins remain.
The GentleMax Pro® laser treatment also improves skin texture through collagen stimulation. You get multiple treatment benefits through one system.
WHY IS THIS LASER TREATMENT BETTER IN THE WINTER?
Patients who love the outdoors typically have a tan during the summer months. The tan makes it more difficult to have a laser treatment. During the winter months, this is much less of an issue.
Although your skin will quickly return to its regular level of sun sensitivity, it is important to practice good sun habits after having laser treatment and into the future. Most of the discolorations and spots on your skin are caused by sun exposure. Wearing sunscreen can reduce the recurrence of pigmentation problems after you’ve completed your laser treatments. Use the winter to practice good sun protection habits, and you’ll be ready to protect your skin come summer.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO YOU NEED?
A single treatment can reduce the pigmented blemish. However patients with darker pigmentation will need additional treatment. We will normally ask our patients to return
4 to 6 weeks after the treatment for a follow-up.
WILL LASER WORK ON MY PIGMENTATION?
Our lasers work to reduce age spots or pigmentation on any skin tone on the face or body except for very dark skins. Patients with darker skin (Fitzpatrick scale 5 or greater) are not candidates for this treatment because the skin surrounding the brown spot could absorb too much laser energy and produce a more serious burn.
WHAT ARE BENEFITS OF LASER TREATMENT?
As well as a treatment for age spots on the face or body, the heat from the laser will stimulate collagen and elastin production in the treated area, giving you additional skin toning and reducing fine wrinkles and the effects of aging.
HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED?
Appointments are normally 15-30 minutes but may be longer for large numbers of brown spots.
After treatment you can go home immediately.
There is no required downtime. You may have some temporary mild redness, but this often fades within the first few hours.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IPL AND THE GENTLEMAX PRO LASER?
IPL stands for intense pulse light, and is not a laser . It uses a range of light and is not targeted.
Laser is a more specific and targeted treatment, consider it a refined instrument specially designed for a particular job.
The GentleMax Pro laser has multiple wavelengths, this enables us to choose a particular laser depending on your skin color, and the conditions we are treating, namely
sun spots, sun damage, redness from rosacea, broken capillaries, spider veins, birthmarks, red acne scars, and hair removal.
Laser is more powerful than IPL, and hence less treatments are needed. Additionally with the unique cooling system or DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device) of the GentleMax Pro enables safer and less painful treatments.
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY SKIN AFTER?
After reducing age spots from the face or body, you must strictly follow your post-treatment care routine and protect your skin from the sun.
Use a broad spectrum sunscreen every day!
